
Dr. Lewis was a professor at Governors State University until her retirement in 2008. She was president of 91µÎµÎ from 2000-2001, as well as Chair of an 91µÎµÎ task force charged with developing the 91µÎµÎ Advocacy Competencies. She co-edited
91µÎµÎ Advocacy Competencies: A Social Justice Framework for Counselors, which was published by 91µÎµÎ to help counselors apply the advocacy competencies across settings and specialties.
Her other books related to counseling and advocacy include
Community Counseling: A Multicultural-Social Justice Perspective,
Management of Human Service Programs and
Substance Abuse Counseling.
After her retirement, Dr. Lewis spent her time in volunteer work focused on community organizing and social justice.
A memorial will be held on April 11 at 10 a.m. at the First Unitarian Society of Chicago in Hyde Park.
